Bacchus Marsh-based TVSA Pilot Training has become the first private registered training organisation in Australia to receive approval for VET FEE HELP to assist students in financing their pilot training.

While the VET FEE HELP student loan scheme has to date only been available for students conducting practical flying training as part of a tertiary degree, TVSA students can now enjoy the same financial benefits without having to commit to a full three-year degree.

This represents a major advantage for those not seeking an aviation degree, given that TVSA’s Diploma of Aviation (Instrument Flight Operations) aims to get students with no prior flying experience their Commercial Pilot Licence and multi-engine instrument rating within 15-18 months.

“It took me two years to get this accreditation – it’s not easy,” TVSA CFI Peter Dow told Australian Flying at the Avalon Airshow. “And it makes us pretty competitive with some of those tertiary places.”

TVSA can also offer VET FEE HELP to CPL pilots seeking an instructor rating. Dow expects to take in TVSA’s first intake of six VET FEE HELP eligible students in early July. To be eligible for VET FEE HELP students must do their flying training on a full-time basis and have Australian citizenship and a tax file number.

This year the VET FEE HELP limit for aviation studies is $86,422.
