Recreational Aviation Australian (RAAus) last week began accepting applications for its 2021 scholarship program.

Known as the GYFTS (Giving Young Fliers Training Support) program, the scholarships are open only to financial members of the organisation and are jointly sponsored by Airservices Australia and OzRunways.

RAAus will award scholarships to applicants in four categories:

  • flying for people aged under 25 years
  • flying for people aged over 25 years
  • flying instructor
  • maintainer.

"RAAus is committed to creating aviation opportunities for everyone and the RAAus Scholarship program supports the dreams of aviators, maintainers and instructors looking to progress their aviation journey," RAAus said in announcing the scholarships.

"From young people embarking on their aviation journey, to experienced pilots wanting to train others by becoming an instructor.

"From the mechanically-minded who want to train as an engineer to people exploring aviation as a change of career, an RAAus scholarship can help you progress your journey."

Applications for the scholarship program close at 5.00 pm Canberra time on 30 April 2021 for funding that commences on 1 July 2021.

Applications forms and eligibility criteria are on the RAAus website.
