Australia's regional aviation crunch continues with Darwin-based carrier Vincent Aviation being placed in the hands of receivers yesterday.

Vincent ran Beech 1900s and SAAB 340s on regular routes between Darwin, Groote Eylandt and Cairns, as well as fly-in, fly-out and charter operations. In March the company had been approved to operate the Narrabri-Sydney route, replacing the collapsed Brindabella Airliines.

A company statement released yesterday said: "On Wednesday 28 May 2014, Andrew Fielding and Gerald Collins of BDO Business Recovery & Insolvency (Qld) Pty Ltd were appointed Receivers and Managers of Vincent Aviation. The Receivers and Managers ceased trading while an urgent assessment of the business and its operations is undertaken."

It has been reported that up to 120 staff at the Darwin hub will be laid off.

Operations in Vincent's headquarters country, New Zealand, are not effected.
