Darwin International Airport's General Aviation area is set to undergo a significant expansion.

As Part of the airport's 20-year Master Plan vision for growth, the development of expanded GA facilities will allow existing operators and support businesses to increase capacity. The development is also expected to attract several new GA businesses to Darwin. The airport currently has negotiations underway with several operators.

"The expansion of the General Aviation precinct will deliver an extra 16,000sqm of land side aviation sites next to 11,000sqm of apron and 38 parking positions to cater for aircraft," Darwin International Airport Property Asset Manager Cameron Bowes said. "Operators securing leases early in the piece will benefit from brand new facilities that can be tailored for their specific individual needs."

The GA expansion will also see a significant increase in the staff car parking area. Stages for development will be released according to market demand.

Airport representatives said they saw the Northern Territory economy continuing to show robust growth, allowing local businesses to enjoy the flow-on effects of strong mining, resource and tourism industries.
