Backed by $7.5 million in funding by its Regional Council, Bundaberg has opened the Hinkler Hall of Aviation in honour of one of its finest sons, aviation pioneer Bert Hinkler.
Born Herbert John Louis (Bert) Hinkler in Bundaberg on December 8 1892, between 1920 and 1931 Hinkler etched out a respected aviation career that included a pioneering solo flight from England to Australia in 1928 as well as the world’s first solo flight across the South Atlantic in 1931.
