Polytechnic West has opened its new AeroSpace Training Centre at Jandakot Airport.
Replacing facilities at Polytechnic West’s Midland campus, the new training facility is housed in a refurbished hangar, and with industry support Polytechnic says it will have the capacity to train more than 300 students annually from the centre.
As well offering a Certificate IV in Aeronautics, which covers aviation theory up to CPL level, the new centre will be used as a base for engineering and aviation management studies, with additional courses currently being developed to cover cabin crew and airline operations.
“The State Government’s investment of $2 million in this centre, along with a direct contribution from Polytechnic West, has helped provide contemporary training facilities that will enable the aviation industry to develop a capable and skilled workforce,” WA Training and Workforce Development Minister Peter Collier said while launching the new facility yesterday.
“By locating the centre at Jandakot, students are able to learn at an operational airfield, ensuring they are better prepared for a career in aviation. The centre not only allows Polytechnic West to deliver high-level training to this sector but it will also further strengthen the flexibility of the State’s training system.”
Polytechnic West’s fleet includes a former OzJet Boeing 737 (pictured), which will be used as a static training aid, a Cessna 340, a Beech Baron, and a Robinson R22 helicopter.
Readers please note: Polytechnic West does not offer practical flying training.
