Wings Over Shellharbour is set to return to the NSW South Coast on 22–23 May 2027 at Shellharbour Airport after more than 20,000 spectators attended this year’s successful airshow.
Close to 40 aircraft took to the skies in this year’s airshow, delivering an estimated $10 million economic impact for the Illawarra region, cementing the event's place on the aviation calendar.
“We are really excited to bring this airshow to the crowds every year for an unforgettable weekend of fast jets, military performers, legendary warbirds, and breathtaking aerobatics and stunts from the very best aviators in the country, alongside a ground festival of static aircraft, carnival rides, market stalls, food vendors and live entertainment,” said Paul Bennet, Founder of Paul Bennet Airshows.
"There aren't many places in the world where you can get this close to these specialised aircraft with the flight line right in front of you and the HARS Aviation Museum close by enabling people to sit in, climb through and get their hands on historic aircraft like the Super Constellation and Boeing 747,” said Mr Bennet.
“You don't just watch this airshow. You're in it."
"These warbirds are more than aircraft as they're part of our story, and every time we put one in the sky over Shellharbour we're preserving that history and passing it on. That's something we take seriously, and something worth coming to see."
Cr Chris Homer, Mayor of Shellharbour said Wings Over Shellharbour showcased the very best of our city's aviation heritage and community spirit.
“The event captured the imagination of people of all ages and reinforced Shellharbour Airport's important place in our region's story,” said Mayor Homer.
“We're proud to see Wings Over Shellharbour return in 2027 and continue inspiring the next generation of aviation enthusiasts."
The event's free Careers Day for secondary school students will return on Friday 21 May 2027, delivered in partnership with the AMDA Foundation's Careers by AMDA initiative. In 2026, the program introduced thousands of local students to aviation, defence and STEM career pathways through hands-on exhibits, interactive keynotes and presentations from industry leaders.
“The 2026 Careers Day was an outstanding success, connecting thousands of students with the people, skills and opportunities that underpin Australia’s aviation sector,” said Justin Giddings, CEO, AMDA Foundation.
“We’re delighted to partner with Wings Over Shellharbour again in 2027, helping young people discover the many pathways available across general aviation - from flying and aircraft maintenance to engineering, airport operations and emerging technologies, and more importantly understand how they can take their first step into the aviation industry.”
Wings Over Shellharbour is the only major airshow within easy reach of Sydney and Canberra, held against the backdrop of the Illawarra escarpment and the South Coast shoreline.
