One of Australia's most popular and anticipated air show, the Jamestown Air Spectacular scheduled for Jamestown, SA, this Sunday, has been canceled because of forecast heavy rain.

In a statement released in the last 24 hours, Jamestown Flying Group said to proceed with the show would put all stakeholders at risk

"The unusual weather patterns with the heavy rain forecasted this week in the region, as well as possible adverse weather forecasted on the weekend of the airshow places an unacceptable risk to everyone who attends, such as you, our public spectators, and our many stakeholders planning to attend whether with displays, market stalls or of course our display pilots with their aircraft," the statement says.

"This decision and outcome for this event sadly follows suit with many other local events in the region and interstate, that have had to cancel or postpone their events with the same concerns and caution owing to the unprecedented weather that has been experienced throughout south-eastern Australia.

"When aviation is concerned, the safety of the public and our pilots and aircraft must always come first well ahead of any commitment to run this event.

"We are disappointed, as a small committee of local volunteers who organise this event to bring people and their spending to our community and region, and have worked for the past year to organise this event, it is a decision not made lightly."

The announcement follows hot on the heels of Warbirds Downunder, which was to have been held last weekend, but was also canceled because the show site at Temora was too wet.

Jamestown Flying Group has said that all pre-purchased tickets will be refunded.
