HARS Aviation Museum at Shellharbour Airport will open its doors to a rare lineup of aircraft this weekend for June Tarmac Days, including the recently arrived John Travolta Boeing 707.

Running Friday 12 to Sunday 14 June, the event will give visitors the chance to see preparation work underway on the former Qantas 707-138, which HARS President Bob De La Hunty said is being readied for full assembly later this year.

'John Travolta's Boeing 707-138 preparation work is underway in our main hangar so visitors can check out how our team is preparing this former Qantas jet for its full assembly later this year,' De La Hunty said.

Also open for inspection will be the airworthy former RAAF AP-3C Orion maritime patrol aircraft and the Berlin Airlift-veteran DC-4. A Neptune bomber will conduct engine runs, and pilot training activities will offer the chance to see both Iroquois H and B model 'Huey' helicopters in action.

The Orion will be positioned in front of HARS' Boeing 747 near a new barbecue area operating Saturday and Sunday.

Other aircraft open for onboard viewing include a Convair 440 in TAA livery and Connie, the world's only flying Lockheed Super Constellation. JetFlight will operate Albatross Jet adventure flights throughout the weekend.

Visitors can also tour the Australian Aviation Hall of Fame, walk through the former Qantas Boeing 747-400, and inspect the full-size 'Southern Cross' replica, the Fokker tri-motor used by Kingsford Smith and crew for the first trans-Pacific crossing in 1928.

HARS Aviation Museum is open daily from 9.30am to 3.30pm, with the last guided tour at 2pm. The museum is located at Shellharbour Airport, Albion Park Rail, a short walk from the railway station. Tickets and check-in details are available at hars.org.au.
