CASA is asking industry to have its say on a proposed scheme for annual registration of all VH-registered aircraft, set to commence from July 2027.
CASA says the government has already decided to introduce annual registration, with the current consultation focused on implementation, informed by input from the aviation industry. The regulator says the change is intended to support safety outcomes and improve data accuracy, with cost-recovery arrangements to be finalised following consultation.
Feedback is being sought on 4 areas:
- annual registration levy model options
- annual registration responsibilities
- additional information collection to support safety outcomes
- digital registration renewals
Not up for discussion in this round are the final levy amount and other implementation details such as refunds, cancellations and suspensions, which fall outside the scope of the current consultation.
CASA says feedback from this round will help shape the scheme ahead of legislation and implementation arrangements being finalised, with further consultation to follow on the draft legislation and Cost Recovery Implementation Statement (CRIS).
Consultation closes 13 August 2026. Submit your feedback here.
