Storm Ciara (Sabine in Germany and Elsa in Sweden) thundered into Europe this week and caused all sorts of mayhem. The winds were so strong that the jetstream propelled a B747 to break the record for the fastest subsonic crossing of the Atlantic: 4 hours and 56 minutes with a ground speed of 717 knots. Aviation went on at top levels despite the tempest, and this video shows pilots in action at Birmingham Airport as Ciara tries to do her worst.
