Recreational Aviation Australia (RAAus) today opened nominations for two vacancies on the Board of Directors.
RAAus is currently running a full seven-person board under chair Michael Monck, and the constitution requires two directors to retire before every Annual General Meeting if there are more than four directors on the board. RAAus' AGM is due in November.
The two retiring directors this year are Trevor Bange and Paul Reddish.
"Recreational Aviation Australia is pleased to invite members to nominate as an RAAus Board Director," RAAus says in a statement sent to members today.
"With almost 10,000 members, we are the fastest growing group of aviators in Australia, and the role of our board is to act on the behalf of members in overseeing and governing the company.
"There are two director positions available, and nominations are called for from the membership to fill these vacancies. Directors required to stand down may be eligible to re-nominate.
"Board director candidates must ensure they meet all requirements as described within the board-approved Nomination Pack."
Although any financial member of RAAus can be nominated, candidates must be eligible to hold a Directors Identification Number (DIN) in line with the Corporations Act 2001 prior to nomination, and comply with other nomination rules outlined by RAAus.
Specifically, RAAus believes that nominees should be able to display:
- strategic expertise – the ability to set and review strategy through constructive questioning and suggestion
- financial literacy – the ability to read and comprehend the company’s accounts and the financial material presented to the board, in addition to understanding financial reporting requirements
- legal skill – the boards’ responsibility involves overseeing compliance with numerous laws
- risk management skills – experience in managing areas of major risk to the organisation
- an ability to manage people and achieving change
- industry knowledge – experience in similar organisations or industries
- an understanding of stakeholder expectations
- an understanding of information technology
- a working understanding of the Commonwealth Corporations Act 2001.
Candidates must be nominated by at least two current RAAus members who are eligible to vote. Nominations will remain open until 2 July.
The RAAus AGM is scheduled for 15 November 2025, with further details on the RAAus website in the Governance section of the members portal.
