The Aerospace and Defence Exposition at the Australian International Airshow will feature a youth technology precinct for the first time.

The precinct is part of a push to promote careers in aviation, aerospace and defence.

Throughout the expo, there will be displays from students in early secondary school years up to post graduates and engineers.

Airshow CEO Ian Honnery believes the precinct will excite the imagination of young people, and a few not-so-young ones.

"This is really an exciting opportunity for these young people to show off their hard work, on ideas such as solar cars, robotics, space science and unmanned aerial vehicles," he said.

"We want to inspire the next generation to take up a career in aviation, aerospace and technology-related industries."

Avalon2013 will also host the Australian National Final of the Formula One in Schools Technoloy Challenge, which is sponsored by the Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO). Australian teams will be competing for the right to represent their country at the 2013 World Final.
