Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss has committed the government to responding to the Forsyth Report by the end of the year.

Speaking at the Airservices Australia Waypoint Conference in Canberra yesterday, Truss said the government was still examining the report.

"The government is now carefully considering all of the 37 recommendations and other matter arising from the report," he told the conference. "We intend to provide a comprehensive response before the year is out."

Truss gave away very little about his impressions of the report, limiting comments to say only that the Aviation Safety Regulation Review (Forsyth Report) revealed Australia had a good safety record, but that some areas could be improved.

The Forsyth Report was released in June and was damning in its evaluation of CASA's culture and relationship with the aviation industry. Since then, there has been no response from the government, which has blunted the industry's optimism that genuine reform is only a short time away.
