Your editor has to confess to suffering from severe technology inertia. It took me years to get a mobile phone, which I cherished until the need for better reception forced me to get a modern one. When the whole world was going digital I bought a brand new Minolta film SLR because it was cheaper.
I am now a digital photographer and, perhaps more amazing, I own a laptop. What I don't have is any form of tablet device or smart phone that runs apps. I think that is the first time I have ever written the word "apps". I think you see where this is going.
However, in my new role with Australian Flying I see many new updates for things like Airbox and OzRunways and have come to the conclusion that by not adopting them I am probably making my cockpit management a lot harder than I have to. But what? There seems to be so many options for things like iPads and Galaxies and things named after fruit that a technology neophyte like me has no idea where to start.
That's where you come into it.
I am looking for advice on what tablet is the best option, and what apps I should be getting. I would like you, the readers, to send in your comments below on your systems; what you like about them, what you hate about them. Tell me how you use them in the cockpit and how they help your flying.
I know it is time to hold my nose and leap into the water; I just need you to give me a bit of a shove.
