Tecnam last week rolled out the first prototype of the P2012 Traveller twin-engined charter aeroplane.

The Lycoming-powered 11-seater was taken out of the production plant at Capua, Italy, and successfully taxied across the ramp at Tecnam's home airport.

Experimental test pilot Lorenzo De Stefano and Managing Director Paolo Pascale were at the controls.

“Another milestone has [been] achieved," said Pascale. "The P2012 Traveller is yet another superlative aircraft designed by Professor Luigi Pascale, with the aim of meeting growing demands of regional short-haul transportation operators in particular. ”

Also attending the roll-out was Jim Goddard, Senior Vice President of launch customer Cape Air, a US regional airline.

"As both a lifelong airplane and aviation enthusiast, taking part in todays P2012 roll out was a special treat that will be remembered for a lifetime," Goddard said.

"The P2012, with its unique aerodynamic profile and lines, is a flying example when science and art come together so all may enjoy. This aircraft brings the passion and emotion that has existed at Tecnam in 1948 and remains until this day."

The Traveller is designed to FAR 23 and EASA CA-23 standards and is powered by two Lycoming TEO-540-C1A piston engines. It will be marketed at charter companies and regional airlines looking to replace ageing twins such as the Piper Navajo/Chieftain and Cessna 400 series aeroplanes.
