Italian manufacturer Tecnam announced yesterday that it is evaluating the potential for a two-seat, single-engined jet.
The aircraft, known as the P Jet, is a side-by-side configuration designed for both military training and civilian use.
"The P JET will undoubtedly be a game-changer not only in the world of General Aviation but also as a first level entry military training jet powered aircraft, Tecnam's announcement stated.
"Tecnam’s initial research suggests that manufacturing this visionary aircraft is both technically and economically achievable. The remarkable progress in the development and reliability of thermic and mechanical efficiency now available in high bypass, two-spool turbofan engines, along with major advances in materials ensures that production of the P JET is a feasible proposition."
Other design features being explored include a podded engine mounted on the aircraft spine, twin vertical stabilisers on the tail and both pressurised and non-pressurised versions.
Development will proceed with the aim of certifying the aircraft to both CS-23 and FAR 23.
