Italian manufacturer Tecnam has branded itself as the world's largest manufacturer of both general aviation and recreational aircraft.

The boast comes after a robust year in 2013, during which the Capua-based company delivered the equivalent of one new aeroplane every working day.

Continued development of new and existing models saw Tecnam release several new variants during the year, including:

  • The first flight of the up-market Astore LSA
  • EASA certification for the P2008JC metal-composite VLA
  • First test of the P2002JF with hand controls for Aerobility UK
  • Introduction of the P2002JF with a variable pitch prop

The company also delivered the 150th P2006T twin and the P92 fleet passed the 2500 aircraft mark.

At Aero 2013 at Friedrichshafen, Tecnam's new four-seat general aviation aircraft, the P2010, was voted best GA aircraft. The P2010 is powered by a Lycoming IO-360-M1a engine providing 180 hp at 2700 RPM, and is of composite and metal construction.

With certification and first deliveries expected in the northern Spring of 2014, it remains to be seen of the P2010 can take significant market share off the traditional four-seat GA brands such as Cessna and Piper.
