Team Superfly has won the 2012 Worley Parsons Outback Air Race.

Ed McGough and Peter Kneale, both from Perth, campaigned a C182T over the 2000 nm course, raising over $12,000 for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

The air race is a GPS-based navigation trial through the remote outback, with teams getting points for time and location accuracy.

This year, 18 teams completed the two-week that started in Ceduna on August 28, went through to Arkaroola, Innamincka, Longreach, Adels Grove and Darwin. In all over $250,000 was raised for the RFDS.

Gavin Rutherford and Peter Thomas in the Mooney of Team GFR raised the most money with $67,000, and Grant Taylor of Team Bliss (Cherokee Six) won the Spirit of the Air Race Award.

Team Superfly was sponsored by Australian Flying, and the story of how the race was won will feature in the Jan-Feb print edition.
