American Legend Aircraft Company launched its Lycoming-powered Super Legend at the recent Sun 'n Fun fly-in at Lakeland, Florida.

The company now has orders for nine of the new taildraggers with four already in the hands of customers.

The Super Legend first flew in January 2012 and was certified in November last year.

American Legend's objectives by putting the re-engineered Lycoming YO-233 in the Legend Cub air frame included a quest for a higher performance, ever shorter take-off rolls and a greater range.

The YO-233 will also run on both avgas and unleaded mogas and is free of power-setting limits, making full power available in all phases of flight.

With the new Lycoming in the front, the Super Legend's ground roll has been reduced to only 280 feet, compared with the 310 feet of the Continental-powered Legend Cub.

The Super Legend is available as an LSA and a home-build kit.
