Canadian manufacturer Viking Air has launched a marketing push on the back of a good showing at the Australian International Airshow and the first sale in the Pacific region.

Viking Air builds and sells the Viking Series 400, a resurrection of the popular De Havilland DHC-6 Twin Otter.

The company's first sale in the Pacific region was to Walker Corporation for use in Fiji, which has encouraged local agent Utility Air to launch a marketing push and new website www.utilityair.com.

"Viking is supplying what the market wanted - a new version of the legendary Twin Otter aircraft," said Utility Managing Director Steve Pembro. "I truly believe this is the hardest working aircraft in the world and our new website will allow us to spread the word across the Pacific region.

"[the new] Viking Series 400 is a game changer for companies who want to operate in rugged conditions with unparalleled levels of safety and economy."

The original De Havilland Twin Otter first flew in 1965, with 844 built before the line shut down in 1988. Viking bought the type certificate in 2005 and re-started production.

The Viking Series 400 Twin Otter has a capacity of two crew and 19 passengers, and is powered by two Pratt & Whitney PT6A-34 turbo-props, giving it a sea-level cruise of 170 KTAS.

More information on the Viking Twin Otter is available on the Utility Air website.
