Rotax introduced a new 135-hp turbo-charged engine at Oshkosh last week.

The 915 iS is a four-cylinder, four-stroke engine with fuel injection, designed to provide aircraft manufacturers with options for higher payloads and shorter take-off distances.

Thomas Uhr, VP BRP-Powertrain said the new engine was designed to meet a demand from the market for more power.

“This more powerful aircraft engine–the Rotax 915 iS–was specifically requested by our customers," he said. "It opens the way for larger, heavier aircraft, larger gyrocopters and even small helicopters, or simply more performance for current applications.

“BRP’s Rotax 4-stroke aircraft engines are already industry leaders; opening other markets represents a good growth opportunity.”

The 915 iS has a redundant fuel-injection system and intercooler.

Production is scheduled to start in the second half of 2017.
