The ever-popular Robinson Helicopter Company has announced impressive sales results for the 2011 calendar year.
The California-based helicopter manufacturer produced a total of 356 aircraft in 2011, which more than doubled the 162 it produced in 2010.
Of those 356 Robinson rotary wings built in 2011, 56 were the entry level two-place R22 model; 212 were the four-place R44 model; and 88 were the latest addition to the Robinson fleet, the five-place R66. FAA certificated in October 2010, the R66 is the first turbine helicopter Robinson has produced.
“While the R44 remains Robinson’s top-selling helicopter, the response to the R66 Turbine has been very strong,” Robinson said. “As of December 31, 2011, total orders received for the new model exceeded 360.”
Robinson enters 2012 with a backlog of more than 400 aircraft orders and in response to strong demand the company has expanded its manufacturing space and is continuing to increase its workforce.
While continuing validation of the R66 in overseas markets, in 2012 Robinson will seek FAA certification of new options for the R66, including floats and a police version.
