The Qantas Founders Museum (QFM) in Longreach, QLD, has bought a Super Constellation to add to its collection.

The aircraft has been derelict in Manila for 25 years, and will be restored to static condition to add to the B747 and B707 on outside display.

QFM secured the aircraft on 18 September after bidding in a auction run by Manila International Airport.

“The museum has identified a number of iconic Qantas aircraft it should have in its collection so we are delighted to finally have the Super Constellation as part of our museum," said QFM CEO Tony Martin.

“In the past, Qantas Founders Museum has experienced a growth in visitor numbers of 10 – 20% as a result of a new aircraft being added to its collection such as the inclusion of the Boeing 707 in June 2007. We hope the Super Constellation will exceed or mirror this.

“An increase in visitors to Qantas Founders Museum will not only benefit the Longreach local economy through employment and tourism spending in local businesses but also the entire Outback Queensland region as visitors plan their trip in the area.”

The Super Connie will likely be shipped to Australia by sea.
