Piper Aircraft is set to refocus efforts on the range of training aircraft, in particular fleet sales to flight training organisations (FTOs).
According Piper's Jackie Carlon, the secret to regaining lost market share is in the Garmin G1000 suite.
"Both the Archer TX and the Seminole will be getting the G1000 avionics by Q3 2013," she told Australian Flying.
"We've had plenty of interest from FTOs in the past, but without a G1000 system we just couldn't compete and were losing market share."
Piper has also put in place a team of regional sales managers to support sales manager Chuck Glass. The aim is to enable a faster response to customer requests right around the world.
"It's all about a total Piper experience," Carlon points out. "We want to develop relationships with flying schools to help them grow their business, and as their business grows, so does ours.
"We have been absent from the training aspect of our business for so long, and it has meant we haven't had our finger on the pulse of the training market.
"Some training contracts schools are getting now specify younger aircraft, and the training market in Australia now represents to us the biggest opportunity in the Pacific rim."
Fleet sales of the Archer TX are reportedly on the rise, with most slots on the manufacturing line now committed to orders.
