A public meeting to held in April to discuss the Preliminary Draft Master Plan (PDMP) for Parafield Airport gave voice to members of the public over a number of issues. The meeting minutes show that six staff of Adelaide Airport Limited and Parafield Airport Limited fronted to answer questions from 46 members of the public as part of the PDMP consultation.

These are some of the issues raised.

  • Residents were concerned over movements before 7.00 am and after 11.00 pm
  • Quieter aircraft are needed
  • The Diamond twin was singled out as a particularly noisy aeroplane
  • Some residents requested double-glazing and/or insulation for their homes
  • Concern was expressed at the lack of phone contact with Air Services
  • The PDMP predicts an increase in aircraft movements, which worried residents
  • A number of residents claimed aircraft noise had increased over the past six-12 months.
  • A suggestion was made that aircraft could use salt pans for circuits, or make the circuits at a higher altitude.

The Airport Act 1996 requires all airports leased from the Federal Government to submit a master plan every five years for ministerial approval. The 2012 plan for Parafield is due in June and is expected to predict 391,000 movements by 2031.
