American Legend Aircraft Company yesterday announced their new Super Legend LSA has completed S-LSA approval and FAA certification review.
The Super Legend is a Lycoming O-233-powered version of the Legend Cub, featuring flaps and an enlarged tail. The 115-hp engine gives the aircraft the same power-to-weight ratio of the 150-hp Piper Super Cub.
It boasts a higher power-to-weight ratio than similar sport aircraft. cabin is wider than traditional Cubs, and clamshell doors are standard on both sides of the fuselage. Typically configured, the Super Legend incorporates electronic flight displays and Night VFR capability.
The Super Legend satisfies the S-LSA MTOW of 600 kg, with nearly 226 kg. of useful payload. As an amateur-built kit, the same aircraft can be certified to 793 kg MTOW.
