Another airport has joined the emerging trend of establishing airparks for permanent residents.

The first house and hanger of Cumulus Airpark at Gympie in Queensland has been completed, with the approval of another six vacant blocks to be sold freehold in the first stage.

Each block is around 3000 m2 and will have access to taxiways.

Airpark Director Ray Gresham believes Gympie is the perfect spot for people looking to establish a home on an airport.

"The region has incredible beauty with Noosa just a short 15min flight or cruise up the coast whale watching landing on world heritage Fraser Island you can have lunch at the exclusive King Fisher Bay Resort or stay the night, or head south within 30 minutes flying over Maleny on the hinterland and through the Glass House Mountains," he told Australian Flying.

"The aerodrome is maintained by council, so no mowing required by the residents. It has fuelling and maintenance facilities on- site as well.

"We are lucky enough to be in uncontrolled airspace with no landing fees, making it suitable for pilots who want to enjoy the ultimate lifestyle in a fantastic year-round environment with a friendly aviation community."

Gympie Airport is owned by Gympie Regional Council and is 40 nm north-west of the Sunshine Coast. The airport has two runways: a 600 metre grass and a 1400 metre sealed.
