The Airways Museum Open Day and the launch of a new special exhibition - Australian Civil Aircraft Between the Wars: Photos from the Len Dobbin Collection, Saturday 12 November 10 am to 5 pm.
This exhibition will feature rare photographs from the CAHS Len Dobbin collection dating from the early 1920s through to the late 1930s.
The Open Day will also feature Guest Speakers, renowned air safety writer Mr Macarthur Job OAM and aviation historian Mr Geoff Goodall. Films from the CAHS archive will be shown at other times throughout the day.
The Airways Museum is an aviation museum, but with one difference - there are no aircraft!
Instead, the Museum houses a collection of national importance that traces the development of Australia's civil aviation airways system through innovation and technical development from it's beginnings in the 1920s to today.
The story is told through artefacts and photographs, and illustrates how Australia has often played a leading role internationally in aviation development.
Major areas covered in the museum include: air trafficsServices, air/ground & ground/ground communications equipment, radio navigation beacons & radar, airport lighting & visual approach guidance and flight calibration of navigation aids.
The
Museum is located at Essendon Airport in Melbourne,
at the rear of Building 44. Enter via Edgar Johnston Lane.
