More Chinese students will be trained in Victoria after a trade mission to China last September.
Initally, 30 more students from China Southern Airlines will be trained at Moorabbin Flight Training Academy (MFTA) at Mangalore .
According to Victoria's Aviation Minister, Gordon Rich-Phillips, the new crop of student pilots will add $3 million to the state's export earnings, which the government is crediting to the Super Trade Mission undertaken last year.
"Already pilot trainees from across Asia come here to learn how to fly, and the China Super Trade Mission established that this demand is increasing," he said.
"The contribution is significant both to local economies as well as the state as a whole. Victoria is a great place for international pilot training, with good terrain and weather, uncongested airspace and accessible training infrastructure."
MFTA already has 80 China Southern students on its books, and also trains for Civil Aviation Administration of China and China Eastern Airlines.
Students from other Asian airlines such as Singapore Airlines, Vietnam Airlines and DragonAir are in training with various other academies around the state.
