Federal Minister for Resources, Energy and Tourism, Martin Ferguson will deliver the keynote address to a fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) seminar at Avalon.
Mining, Airlines, Airports and Tourism - Fly-in/Fly-Out Impacts will address the common challenges and opportunties arising from Australia's mining boom, and will be held on Thursday, February 28.
According to air show CEO Ian Honnery, the seminar is set to help the industry take advantage of rise of FIFO operations.
“The FIFO market has created demand for improved airport infrastructure in remote areas and for greater passenger capacity on many routes,” he said.
“This could be a boon for domestic tourism as well because for the first time it makes some previously remote areas more accessible and affordable to visit.
"Hosting this important seminar at AVALON2013 is our way of helping the aviation, tourism and government stakeholders to achieve that: we’re uniquely able to get all of the key players in the same place to hold a fruitful discussion.”
Darryl Tonkin, Manager of Kalgoorlie/Boulder Airport, will mediate the two-hour seminar, which will include as speakers:
- CEO of Minerals Council of Australia Mitch Hooke
- Sharp Airlines boss Malcolm Sharp
- QLD Director of the Australian Airports Association and Sunshine Coast Airport GM Peter Pallot
- GM Destination Development for Tourism Australia Craig Davidson.
