An international club dedicated to safe flight in Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC) is set to launch in Australia in April this year.
The IMC Club provides organised “hangar flying” focused on building proficiency in instrument flying, and brings together IFR-rated pilots who fly in actual IMC. Since its inception just four years ago, this organization grew from four pilots in Norwood, Massachusetts, to over 2700 registered members globally.
The first meeting of the IMC Club Australia group will be held in April at Narromine.
Murray Feddersen is the President of the newly-created IMC Club Australia.
“As a pilot, I have learned and continue to learn from the experiences of others, which I believe that most pilots do," he commented. "The IMC Club will provide the opportunity to help and benefit the IFR aviators in Australia.
"The introduction of Performance Based Navigation (PBN) to be followed by progressive decommissioning of ground navigation aids in Australia and mandatory fitment of ADS-B are part of a rapidly changing operating environment and it is hoped that establishment of the IMC Club Chapter … will provide a forum where pilots can interact to improve the safety and efficiency of their operations.”
