Hamilton Airport in Victoria's west is to get a $1.4 million grant from the Victorian government.
The grant is part of the Regional Aviation Fund aimed at improving capacity and facilities at Victorian Airports.
The money will go towards extending the main runway by 300 metres, turnarounds at the runway ends and new runway lighting.
“These improvements will allow the runway to accommodate larger aircraft, which will be vital to the on-going economic development of the region,” said Minister for the Aviation Industry Gordon Rich-Phillips.
“Aviation is a vital contributor to the state’s economy and underpins our tourism and in-bound investment industries. It is also particularly significant for regional Victoria, connecting towns and regions with vital services and enabling quicker, more convenient travel for residents.
“The revitalisation will be vital as Hamilton Airport grows in importance and will ensure a sustainable future for the local aviation sector.”
Hamilton has a rich aviation heritage as the traditional home of the now-defunct Ansett Airlines.
