Australian Matt Hall says he is ready to have a go at the final round of the Red Bull Air Race series in Spielberg, Austria, this weekend.

The former RAAF pilot is looking forward to the difficult track set up on the Red Bull Ring Formula One track and hopes to finish the 2014 season on a high note. Hall sits in fifth place with 33 points, and the chance to overhaul fourth-place Canadian Pete McLeod on 37 points.

“I’m pretty relaxed about the race itself as the pressure has gone off me because I can’t make it to the top three overall,” he said.

“I’m just going to try to go out there and have the best race that I can and see how it plays. The guys in front of me have everything to lose and I’ve got nothing to lose so let’s have a go.”

The Spielberg track features a 65-metre elevation change on each lap and lots of obstacles, trees and even some light poles, presenting one of the most challenging rounds of the 2014 season.

"It’s a high-speed track and we’ve got low density altitude with the cool temperatures," Hall said. "There’s going to be a huge potential for some guys violating the maximum G levels on some of these turns, especially as we go through the start-finish gate.”

The man in the box seat is Briton Nigel Lamb, who leads the series by five points from local hero Hannes Arch, and will be looking to secure his first ever championship win.

The race is at 12.30 am Monday morning on FuelTV or streamed via the Red Bull Air Race website.
