The 2013 inductees into the Australian Aviation Hall of Fame have been announced.
Nine individual aviation pioneers and Qantas Airways Limited will be inducted at a special dinner in Wagga Wagga on 16 November this year.
The nine pioneers are:
- Qantas Co-founders Hudson Fysh, Paul McGinness and Fergus McMaster
- Qantas first engineer Arthur Baird
- Engineer and CAC administrator Sir Lawrence Wackett
- Polar photographer and pilot Hubert Wilkins
- "Black box" inventor David Warren
- Aviatrix Freda Thompson
- Aviator, adventurer and entrepreneur Dick Smith.
Qantas will be awarded the highly-coveted Southern Cross Award for an organisation that has made a significant contribution to aviation.
Announcing the inductions, AAHOF chairman Steve Padgett said the list represented people who have not only achieved incredible feats personally, but have also made outstanding contributions to the development of aviation.
The induction dinner will be held at Joyes Hall, Charles Sturt University. Tickets at $110 each will be available through the AAHOF website soon.
