Gulfstream has continued their program of speed records with the G280 and G650 setting new marks en-route to the Singapore Air Show.
The company believes the G650 set a new record for the Honolulu-Singapore city pair, covering the 5909 nm distance in 14 hours and 6 minutes at an average of 0.85 Mach, battling a 100 knot headwind for more than half the journey.
“I can think of no better way for the G650 to make its Singapore Airshow debut than to land after setting a speed record that demonstrates its flexibility and capability for our customers around the world, particularly Asia,” said Scott Neal, senior vice president, Worldwide Sales and Marketing, Gulfstream.
“This record, like the 38 others before it, reflects the G650’s significant speed and range.”
The G650 entered service on 20 December, 2012. Since then, Gulfstream has delivered more than 50 G650 aircraft to customers.
Not to be left behind by its big brother, the mid-size G280 has been nominated for three city-pair records on its two-stop trip from Georgia to Singapore.
The G280 covered the 3206 nm from Savannah to Anchorage in 7 hours and 41 minutess, 3040 nm from Anchorage to Tokyo Narita in 6 hours and 50 minutess, and the final 3032 nm to Singapore in 8 hours and 9 minutes.
“This is quite the Singapore debut for the G280,” said Neal. “These records show how quickly the G280 can connect North America to Asia, even westbound against strong winter headwinds.
"The leg between Tokyo and Singapore, two major financial districts, is especially important to our operators who want the ability to travel quickly, easily and reliably between those destinations. With its almost 40 city-pair records, the G280 has repeatedly demonstrated that it’s a super midsize powerhouse, capable of swiftly connecting far-reaching countries and continents.”
All records are yet to be approved by the US National Aeronautics Association or the Federation Aeronautique Internationale.
