The global market for general aviation aeroplanes grew by 14% in the second quarter of 2014, according to figures released by the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA).

Total deliveries for the Q2 period April-June this year were 592 compared with the 512 delivered in Q1.

Deliveries for the first six months of the year totaled 1110, up 4.8% on the 1059 recorded for the same period last year. According to GAMA President Pete Bunce, the delivery figures are encouraging.

"Deliveries of turbo-props this quarter were flat," he said from Airventure 2014, "but the encouraging numbers in the piston airplane and business jet segments drive the industry's optimism about global general aviation growth. Here at Oshkosh, enthusiasm toward the light airplane industry is clearly palpable.

"However, there is still a great deal of work that remains to make this recovery sustainable over the long term. This includes streamlining certification processes around the globe for both new production and equipage of safety-enhancing technology in the existing fleet."

Once the golden segment of GA, single-engine turbo-prop sales recorded 113 deliveries for the quarter, eclipsed by business sales of 164.

The stars of the piston fleet continue to be the SR22/T with 64 shipments and Diamond's DA40 four-seater with 49, whilst the G36 Bonanza also reported a good result with 11 aircraft compared to the six sold in Q1.

The light twin market showed the DA42 leading the pack with 12, the B58 Baron second with seven, Tecnam's P2006T with six and the Seneca V with two shipments.

Surprisingly, Mahindra's Airvan 8 scored only one shipment against Cessna's T206H with 12.
