The world's fastest existing civil aircraft got nearer to reality when Cessna rolled-out the first production example of the new Citation X corporate jet.

Projected to reach a maximum cruise speed of Mach 0.935, the new jet will sail along a touch below the sound barrier.

"Speed is the reason for flight," said Scott Ernest, Cessna CEO. "It was true for Clyde Cessna in 1927, and it's true today. The Citation X is the perfect aircraft for customers wanting to move faster, be more efficient and get where they need to be more quickly than ever before."

Kelly Reich, business leader for the Citation X said the roll-out was as exciting time. "It is exciting to see this new Citation X roll out the door. The improved capability and features of this aircraft have been received very favorably, especially with the new maximum speed of Mach 0.935. Being part of the fastest business jet in aviation is exciting for Cessnans."

"Cessnans take great pride in this aircraft. It is especially satisfying to see the improvements in performance and features that have been incorporated in the new Citation X."

As well as being fast though the air, the Citation X also has a range of 3242 nm and a maximum cruise altitude of 51,000 feet.

Certification is expected later this year with the first customer deliveries shortly after.
