The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will start auditing manufacturers of Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) in March 2013.
Previously, LSA rules have enabled manufacturers to certify their own aircraft, but the FAA found many could not prove compliance and has decided to step in. See the full news story here.
All manufacturers, both domestic and international will ultimately be subject to three-day field audits.
When asked by Australian Flying in July, CASA indicated they may consider stepping in to LSA certification in Australia depending upon what action the FAA took. That looks almost certain to happen now.
