The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the USA has given Diamond Aircraft's large twin the certification tick of approval.

Certification means the seven-seat DA62 can now be delivered to customers inside the USA. The aircraft was certified in Europe early last year.

Peter Maurer, President and CEO of Diamond Aircraft Industries Inc (Canada) believes the aircraft has a big future in North America.

“Our all new DA62 is getting overwhelming high praise from everyone that flies it," he said. "Its combination of cabin volume, utility, performance and efficiency make it an ideal traveller for the US market.

“We are extremely proud to be offering this great aircraft, alongside our popular singles and DA42 twin.”

The DA62 is powered by two 180-hp Austro diesel engines that give it a top speed of over 200 KTAS and a useful load of 730 kg.

With a tank capacity of 326 litres and a total cruise consumption of around 72 lph, the DA62 has a range of 1285 nm, making the aircraft a very viable option for both private owners and charter operators.

In Europe, the DA62 is certified as a five-seater only to avoid airways charges. It is unlikely that CASA certification will happen until the first customer aircraft are ready for delivery.
