The Federal Aviation Administration has approved the supplemental type certificate (STC) for the Piper Archer DX.

The DX is powered by a Continental CD-155 diesel engine that runs on either Jet-A or EN590 fuel.

Continental Motors subsidiary Technify Motors in Germany received the approval after the aircraft had been on the European market for 12 months under an EASA STC approval.

"With this validation, we anticipate the advent of additional exciting things to come for Piper Aircraft," said Piper President and CEO Simon Caldecott.

"The Archer DX was purposed to allow Piper owners greater access to more economical and readily available fuel sources. We look forward to a greater representation of the aviation population enjoying this unique aircraft."

The DX comes with a Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC) system, and can cruise at a speed of 114 KTAS at 70% power with a fuel burn of only 22 lph. Garmin G1000 avionics are standard.
