Chinese company Chongqing Helicopter Investment Co., Ltd (CQHIC) has bought US helicopter manufacturer Enstrom. The deal was sealed on December 27 last year.
Enstrom President Jerry Mullins believes new ownership will help Enstrom grow in the emerging Asian market.
“This is a major step in moving Enstrom to a new level,” he said. “It will provide Enstrom with the needed resources to enhance marketing efforts in China and around the world. This strong ownership will allow further growth of our business in Menominee, Michigan to meet the demands of the increasing markets around the world, especially Asia.”
Enstrom has experienced a 50% growth in employment over the past 18 months, and under Chinese ownership, plans to expand their Michigan plant to address higher production rates. This new ownership is expected to provide new opportunities, including product improvement, increased marketing support, R&D funding and manufacturing support.
Founded in 1959, Enstrom Helicopter Corporation manufactures the three-seat, piston-powered F28F and 280FX training, sport and light commercial helicopters and a larger turbine-powered 480B.
The company was named for founder Rudy Enstrom, and has had many owners over the years including former Remington boss Victor Kiam and Segway inventor Dean Kamen. At the time of sale to CQHIC, the company was in the hands of an unnamed Swiss investor.
