A consortium that includes Red Bull Racer Matt Hall has bought the old Belmont Airport near Newcastle.

The consortium of Matt Hall Racing, Airborne, Newcastle Helicopters, Skydive the Beach and a private investor signed the sale contracts with the owner Mirvac on April 15, with a settlement planned for mid-year.

The consortium plans to upgrade facilities and improve the appearance of the airfield, which has slowly been falling into disrepair over the last 10 years

“As a group we are really excited about the opportunities this presents for us and the local community in what is a beautiful part of the world,” Matt Hall, the CEO of Matt Hall Racing said.

“There will no doubt be jobs created and a boost for tourism and hospitality operators due to the ease of access that the reopening and upgrading of the airport will bring.”

Belmont Airport was once owned by regional airline Aeropelican until 2006, when the property passed into the hands of property developer Mirvac.
