Senator David Fawcett has promised the government will expand the CASA board to include aviation skills.
The promise came in a speech to the senate on Tuesday, during which the senator also attacked integrity of the ALP's much maligned Aviation White Paper.
"The ALP with their White Paper didn't actually deliver a strategic direction nor an effective reform of the regulatory environment that the aviation sector works under," Senator Fawcett said, "and it's those things that are ... making it so difficult for the aviation industry to get ahead, which is why I welcome the coalition's promise of reforming the board.
"And we see that the coalition will be increasing the [CASA] board to bring skills of aviation engineering and operations onto the board, but we also see the reform of the regulatory sector and that inquiry that's undergoing right now [ASRR]."
The promise comes after the Australian Airports Association and others expressed concern for the lack of aviation skills on the CASA board in their submission to the Aviation Safety Regulation Review (ASRR).
