Cessna has kicked off AirVenture 2010 with a raft of announcements.

Yesterday on the opening day of largest GA Airshow in the world, the Wichita-based aircraft manufacturer announced a new High Sierra Edition of the Citation Mustang. The Citation Mustang High Sierra Edition features special luxury editions of the three currently offered interiors, a special paint scheme, a Garmin G1000 with Synthetic Vision Technology, electronic charts, locking fuel caps as well as unique service and parts programs.

“The special High Sierra Edition gives our customers more luxurious interior and exterior options to outfit their Mustang,” Roger Whyte, Cessna’s senior vice president of Sales and Marketing, said. “The High Sierra Edition package will be a great complement for this successful airplane.”

At a cost of just over US$3 million (2010 delivery), the Mustang features Garmin avionics, Pratt & Whitney Canada engines, and boasts a maximum 1200 nautical mile range.

As well as this, Cessna kicked off AirVenture 2010 - the Experimental Aircraft Association’s annual week-long conference in Oshkosh, Wisconsin – yesterday with a number of other announcements.

These include the new ‘Mustang Ease Into the Saddle’ Program for new Citation Mustang customers. This limited-time program is designed to remove apprehension some customers may feel as they transition from a single-engine or a turboprop aircraft into a business jet. As part of the program, Cessna corporate pilots will act as a 'coach' in a customer's new Mustang.

At this year’s AirVenture Cessna is also saluting some of its classic aircraft, with the celebration of 25 years of Caravan production and the 50th anniversary of the introduction of the Cessna 210. Cessna will deliver its 2,000th Caravan, a Grand Caravan, later this year. The 210 was built over the span of three decades from 1960-1986 and more than 9200 aircraft have been delivered, with the last few delivered in early 1987.

And finally, Cessna has announced that the complete pilot handbook for its new C162 Skycatcher is now available online. The handbook provides system descriptions and basic operating parameters.

“Cessna has produced for the Skycatcher one of the simplest pilot handbooks I’ve ever seen, and I wanted the world to see how easy it is to fly this airplane,” Cessna Chairman, President and CEO Jack Pelton said. “Putting the manual online is a response to our new customers who prefer electronic access to just about everything and we’re all about making flying fun and easy.”
