The Civil Aviation Safety Authority is proposing to issue a general exemption from runway width requirements for private and airwork operations.

If adopted, the exemptions will apply until CAR 235A is amended to take into account issues raised at a Standards Consultative Committee (SCC) meeting on July 4, and concerns previously put forward by operators.

Aeroplane operators will still need to comply with the requirements of CAR 92 (and CASR 137) regardless of the exemptions. These regulations compel operators to ensure that an airfield is safe for take-offs and landings before use.

Any proposed comments need to be sent to Jill Collinge at CASA jill.collinge@casa.gov.au by July 20.
