CASA has scheduled a series of capital city briefings to explain the new CASR Part 61 licensing regulations.

Information will be provided on the content of the new pilot licensing rules, which come in on 4 December, what they mean for each category of pilot and how new licences will be issued.

The briefings will be held simultaneously on Monday 21 October 2013 between 6.00 pm and 9.00 pm in Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.

Venues are:

  • Melbourne – Grape Room, Mercure Treasury Gardens, Melbourne City
  • Sydney – Grand Ballroom, Mercure Sydney International Airport, Wolli Creek
  • Brisbane – Auditorium, Broncos Leagues Club, Red Hill
  • Adelaide – Room MC1-02, Mawson Centre, UniSA Mawson Lakes Campus, Mawson Lakes
  • Perth – Meeting Rooms 2 and 3, Perth Convention Centre, Perth City
  • Canberra – Rooms 1 and 2, ANU Commons Function Centre, Acton

Among other changes, Part 61 enables the introduction of the new recreational pilot licence (RPL) that is expected to replace the GFPT step in the training path.

Pilots will be moved across to the new Part 61 licences progressively over four years.

The new licences will be issued when a pilot updates their qualifications with CASA, such as by upgrading a licence, undertaking a flight review or obtaining a new rating, but not when a medical is renewed.

More information on Part 61 and the briefing schedule is on the CASA website.
