CASA has released a discussion paper calling for industry comments on the issue of ageing aircraft.
DP1205CS is part of the consultation process CASA goes through before making regulatory or advisory changes, and is General Aviation's chance to have some input.
Among the measures proposed by the DP are:
- Encouraging Registered Operators (owners) to “take a closer look” at their ageing aircraft
- An ageing aircraft E-Learning course on CASA's website targeted to assist Registered Operators to ensure the operation of their aircraft continues to be safe
- Trialling the use of a prototype matrix tool, which - if fully developed - may help Registered Operators to determine the extent to which their individual aircraft may be susceptible to ageing issues
- Encouraging participation in aircraft Type Clubs where members are able to collectively share their knowledge and experience in the support and sustainment of their ageing aircraft
- A review of the existing CASA Maintenance Schedule 5 (on its own), for appropriateness as part of the continued maintenance support of Australia’s ageing aircraft fleet.
The DP can be downloaded from the CASA website here. Comments and submission are due in by November 7.
