The Civil Aviation Historical Society (CAHS) has appointed Adjunct Professor Brian O'Keefe OAM as their new patron.

Professor O'Keefe accepted the role after the previous CAHS patron, Ian Leslie AM, died in December last year.

CAHS President Roger Meyer OAM said “Brian is well known and respected internationally for his contribution to the field of civil aviation radio navigation aids, and has long been an enthusiastic supporter of the Civil Aviation Historical Society.”

Professor O’Keeffe is also known as the "Father of FANS" (the Future Air Navigation System) for his pioneering work in the development of satellite-based navigation and communication systems for civil aviation.

In 2004 Brian O’Keeffe received the prestigious Edward Warner Award, the highest award of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), in recognition of his eminent contribution to the development of international civil aviation, in particular his leading role in the field of air navigation.

Previous patrons of CAHS have included Captain Edgar Johnston DFC, Reg Gross DFC and Ian Leslie AM.
