Former World Champion Paul Bonhomme has started his 2014 Red Bull Air Race campaign with a win in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.
Aussie Matt Hall took fourth place after qualifying for the final four.
The final four was made up of Hall, Bonhomme, Hannes Arch and Pete McLeod, with the Australian in track first as the fourth-fastest qualifier.
Hall was on a good pace with a clean first lap, but on his second lap clipped a gate pylon with the right wing of his MXS as he rolled out of a high turn. The result is a Did Not Finish (DNF) and an immediate fourth place unless one of the other three competitors clipped a pylon earlier in their runs than Hall did.
Bonhomme took the win with Hannes Arch second and Canadian Pete McLeod third. The final standing of all competitors was:
- Bonhomme (GBR)
- Arch (AUT)
- McLeod (CAN)
- Hall (AUS)
- Lamb (GBR)
- Dolderer (GER)
- Sonka (CZE)
- Ivanoff (FRA)
- Goulian (USA)
- Muroya (JPN)
- Chambliss (USA)
- Besenyei (HUN)
The RBAR series now moves on to Rovinj in Croatia 12-13 April.
